We made a late afternoon visit to Angle Bay to see what was roosting at high tide. It was close to dusk and the light level was falling but we managed to see at least 200 oystercatchers at three usual roost sites - quite a good total for the bay; a few hundred dunlin were at the main wader roost, but curlew numbers seemed low there and there were no obvious godwits at the main roost sites.
Waterfowl offshore included impressive numbers of wigeon - c.3,000 in an extensive flock; at least 22 pintails (an estimated total based mainly on males as females in the large wigeon flock were hard to pick out in deteriorating light); 82 pale-bellied brent geese were resting closer to the harbour end; 27 great crested grebes was quite a good total for the bay.
