I was in Angle for a meeting this morning, a brief look at the harbour produced 151 Black-tailed Godwit and 5 Knot along with a scattering of Dunlin and 2 Ringed Plover.
A quick dash around the Gann after work to dusk was rewarding. Wigeon continue to increase, now up to at least 128 birds. Unusual to see a flock of 146 Lapwing roosting at the back of the lagoon with the Curlew, Redshank, a few Oystercatchers, 2 Grey Plover and the male Ruff.
A modest gull roost offshore in the still conditions held 8 Mediterranean Gull (5 adults, 3 1CY).
Most noteworthy was a single adult drake Goldeneye on the lagoon, the second record this winter. The last one had gone by the next day, will this one stay? Goldeneye used to be a regular feature of Gann winters, not sure if they have moved elsewhere locally, less inclined to reach Pembrokeshire in the winter, or genuinely in decline?
