WEBS this morning with Rob Lewis and David Ord - grey and drizzly, though clearing slightly. Good numbers of lapwing (1050) and golden plover (410) at the upstream end, the biggest flock of goldies being right up below Trebowen. Lots of gulls - around 400 black-headed, 120 herring, 5 lesser black-backs. Only a few duck (after the good numbers last week - just 4 wigeon, 12 teal, 54 mallard and 11 shoveler), and no sign of the usual greylags today. At least 68 snipe but the total probably much higher - they were kept on the move by the wing-tagged marsh harrier, small groups constantly flying to and fro. A (the) ring-tail hen harrier was hunting at the inland end, roughly opposite the Monterey pines - with buzzard and kestrel the raptor count was four, although there was a brief glimpse of something dropping like a stone through a distant group of snipe, presumably a peregrine. A Cetti's sang briefly in front of the hide.
Rob took yet more pictures of Wing-tags as he flew past the hide.
