A gull from Iceland

Not an Iceland Gull but in many ways even better.  An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull at the Gann at lunchtime with a blue ring on its right leg YH82.  It turns out to be from Hvaleyri, Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, ringed on 5/8/2008.  It was aged 4CY+ then, so is in at least its 16th calendar year now.  Amazingly, this is the first sighting away from Iceland, and there were no sightings at all between 2008 and 2019 when it was twice recorded back at the original site, and twice again this year, most recently on the 4th August.  I cannot work out how to map a straight line distance, so I have no idea how far it is, but it is a sweet recovery.  Also the ringed male Ruff still here today.  Gudmundur tells me that most of their UK sightings are of birds on passage to and from Spain and Portugal.  Be interesting to see if it sticks around.
