A good visit to the Corse this morning. I started at the far end where, on the flooded fields, there were 700+ Lapwing and 400+ Golden Plover. The birds were constantly on the move no doubt disturbed by a passing Sparrowhawk. Two Marsh Harriers were patrolling the reed bed further down the Corse.
I then walked up the Corse from Freshwater West. An imm. Marsh Harrier was over the reeds frequently and the wing tagged Marsh Harrier also put in several appearances. I bumped into David Ord who had seen a Short Eared Owl earlier which dropped into the reeds near the hide.
A Kingfisher flew past the hide and on the water just a few ducks - 11 Mallard, a Shoveller and a Wigeon. Two Red Kites and a Buzzard flew over and one of the Kites was seen feeding on the wing though I couldn’t make out what the prey was.
Back near the car park I looked back to see both Harriers and a Red Kite close to each other over the reeds. They had put all the Snipe up out of the reeds which were flying around in two flocks - well over a hundred birds.
