A week at the Gann

Weather has been a bit rubbish lately, hasn't it?  We had 3 or so days of fog/mist, and then the easterly whipped up which makes birding here hard going - what a biting wind!  A few highlights from the past week:

Barnacle Goose - 1 flew in from the west today, circled several times, and eventually sat down on the river and then the lagoon.  No doubt from feral stock (probably Cardigan Island), but great to see all the same - it is on our Crabhall list for sure! (BOU category C2)

Ruff - the wintering male appeared again today with 163 Lapwing, which settled on the grassy spit opposite us for a while.  The Wigeon have been enjoying grazing here, when not disturbed by dog walkers.

Brent Goose - up to 41 birds commuting back and for to Angle (at least, they fly off that way as the tide comes in).  34 this evening.

Shelduck - 7 rocked up this morning, after only sporadic records of 1s and 2s all winter

Mediterranean Gull - in the past 4 days we have seen 9 ringed birds but only able to read 3 of them (one Belgian, one French and one German).  Around 25 or so in total when the conditions are right.

Red Kite - 2 different birds seen on several dates.

Lesser Black-backed Gull - the Icelandic ringed adult (YH82) was seen again on 27th.

Cormorant - up to 3 sinensis birds still present.
