We've had a pair of Blackcaps visiting our H'west garden since just before Christmas, but no sign for a few weeks until lunchtime today. There's always plenty of apples dotted around and there's a definite pecking order with the male Blackcap close to the top of the smaller birds, only giving way to Blackbirds and Starling. Typically they failed to appear on yesterdays Garden Bird Count though a Red Kite drifted by twice at rooftop height as I was doing the lunchtime dishes. The Blackcap has what looks like pollen around the base of its bill, probably from the catkins that are starting to appear.
