Eastern Cleddau this morning

Very low numbers of waterfowl were present on the Eastern Cleddau this morning, e.g. less than 50 Teal. This was a considerable reduction in the numbers of them noted here a couple of weeks ago. Two Common Sandpipers were feeding on the edge of Slebech reedbed - a regular spot for overwintering birds. A few raptors (Red Kite and Buzzard) were displaying over the woodland and Grey Wagtails were in typical breeding territories at a couple of locations, but otherwise it was fairly quiet along the estuary up here.

The highlight of this lovely spring morning was a brief view of two probable Noctule bats feeding out in the open over grassland south of Conaga Dingle. We are never quite certain why bats occasionally fly  during the day; it might be driven by hunger, then again perhaps they get disturbed from their tree roosts, possibly by prospecting woodpeckers or nuthatches etc.
