Paul and Brians birding adventure

A bit of a tour of Pembs to catch up with some summering birds. Started at Canaston with two each of Tree pipit and Garden warbler in the clearing, no sign of any Wood warbler here. Over to Minwear soon put that right with two singing Wood warblers and a possible third though could have been one of the others ranging a bit further.

Up to Foel Drygarn in the hope of a dotterel, nothing we could see, compensation in a stunning Redstart, Kestrel, Cuckoo and 10 Wheatear. Next stop Glynaeron with Crossbill our target bird but none to be seen or heard, another Garden warbler and another Tree pipit by the entrance. There's some felling going on here and over at Pantmaenog at the moment.

Llangloffan Fen next, Grasshopper warbler, 4 Cettis and yet more Garden warblers with 6 birds including 3 having a sing off across the boardwalk. Large Red damsel first of the year. Had a quick look for Steve J's  Glaucous gull (reported on Twitter yesterday) around Trefin area, the only large gulls were bathing at Penberri Pond also 2 Whimbrel and Mallard with ducklings. Finished off with a good look around St Davids Head, nothing spectacular though there was a constant movement of hirundines mostly Swallows, with a few House Martins and a single Swift. 17 Whitethroat, 6 Wheatear, 2 Sedge warbler and another Grasshopper warbler. Cuckoo and calling Whimbrel and a fledgling Stonechat was a first this year.
