Spotted redshank, Marloes Mere

A juvenile Spotted redshank, was a nice 'cherry on the cake' finish to a good afternoon around the Dale area with Paul. It was 100m out from the Britton Hide around 7pm, and apart from flying off westward (clearly showing the white 'cigar' on its back) and disappearing for 10-15 minutes before returning, it was still there when the light faded at 8:30pm and looked set to roost. Not the clearest views, the lack of any visible management at the mere again means we're peering through willow branches or birds are totally obscured behind undergrowth. (Same old plea, but surely a bit of clearance and some scrapes is well overdue, it would make a huge difference to be able to see what's out there without relying on flight views).

Also at the mere a first Wigeon of the autumn, 6 Teal, a Snipe and a fly over Ringed plover heading east.

Another fly over Ringed plover at Kete, the 4 Golden plover still in the potato field, Great spotted woodpecker again by the lighthouse, just a single Wheatear. Yellow wagtail in field with cattle, right hand side heading to St Anne's, just beyond Snailston.

Earlier at Dale airfield, 7 Yellow wagtails included two brighter birds. Quite a few Pied wagtails with at least 12 White. Only 3 Wheatear, so a bit of a clearout from yesterday. A Kestrel, a whitethroat and 2 Chough.
