Sprinkle Pill Tuesday

From David Ord - Simultaneously to Andy S’s recce of Little Milford, I was exploring Sprinkle Pill and it is interesting the contrast in bird populations of the two upper estuary beats not far apart. Unfortunately, no GRW to report but plenty of Little Egrets - 5 roosting at the pill mouth and 10 fishing in the uppermost part of the pill estuary as the tide retreated. One Greenshank joined them. At the pill mouth 2 Whimbrels sat at roost amongst 80+ Curlews. 11 Cormorants was the most I’ve seen here. 1 Great Crested Grebe, 40+ Mallards, a similar number of Black-headed Gulls, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 4 Greylag Geese made up the local population. No Redshanks or other waders as yet this summer.
