The search goes on for a Wryneck but a good sprinkling of birds around the airfield. Crane fly were coming off and as is the way everything was having a feast. At least 20 Wheatear, including some big peachy birds, 50-60 Pied/White wagtails (there were only a dozen or so on my last visit), c100 Linnet, flock of 30 Goldfinch, Skylarks and dozens and dozens of Meadow pipits est 50 but constantly on the move or being spooked. At least one Tree pipit on the ground with another or the same bird calling. A good opportunity to give them a good grilling. A really bright Yellow wagtail, brightest yet, interestingly it stayed with the pipits (not the sheep and not the other wagtails) impossible to approach. With all the birds a few raptors were patrolling, a couple of buzzards, pair Kestrel (male caught a vole later) and a sparrowhawk so from time to time everything flushed. Waderwise: 7 Ringed plover, 2 Curlew and a Snipe. A Whinchat by the pond and the same or a different bird near the main runway later. Chiffchaff, chiff-chaffing on the track up. And a heron flew in from the sea.
