Barn Owl - Castlemartin Corse

We have just had the details of the Barn Owl recovered by Richard Crossen, further information on the finding in his post of the 30th October below.

A little background - Under 7% of Barn Owls (juvs and adults) move more than 51km. We knew the bird was not ringed in Pembs so we awaited the details with particular interest....

The Barn Owl Rich C found was ringed as a nestling in June 2021 at a site in the Towy Valley and had moved 70km to coastal west Pembs. An interesting and unusual movement.

A previous and extraordinary (distance) record exists of a juvenile ringed in July 2007 at the nest in the Highlands (Scotland) and hit by a car at St Ishmael's (Pembs) in December 2007 -  an incredible distance of 624kms.
