Sprinkle Pill

If you were taking part in a New Year bird race you'd probably not pick Sprinkle Pill in the wind and at low tide. The majority of the birds are hiding from the wind in the depths of the channels and you see only a fraction of them. Not so the Shelducks. These are happily 'formation hoovering' the mud flats, oblivious it seems to all disturbance. An impressive 165 individuals occupied the expanses of mud at the mouth of the pill, the most I have counted here. There seems to be more Mallard here this winter in the main Cleddau channel, with at least 50 individuals there today around the Hook peninsular. Accompanying these, a lone male Pintail was nice to see here.
