Pembroke Millponds this afternoon

We had another walk around the Millpond this afternoon, to see if the Iceland gull was possibly still there. No such luck, but we did note a colour-ringed Black-headed Gull Black ring left leg inscribed X4EK that we had not seen here before. We suspect it to have been ringed somewhere in eastern Germany and await with interest for more details.

A local resident adult female Mute Swan W27611 (paired with an un-ringed male) was also noted when the pair plus their family of full grown young swam close to the Millpond Wall. (One to add to the Ringing Group records Steve). We recorded W27613 in exactly the same spot in Sept. 2020.

Small flocks of Starlings were heading in the Castlemartin Corse direction as it approached dusk, so the reedbed roost over there is still probably in use.

Wishing everyone a very happy and excellent birding 2022.
