Presellis Hobby

It’s very tough trying to match either BrianS or Dave Astins for their knowledge of the birding ground. They were incredibly generous with details of where to look, including dropped pins and a fabulous map but, after 5 occasionally damp hours, we dipped on the Whinchats (and Redstarts, and….).

But we saw (and heard) good number of the commoner species, almost all feeding young: best was an incredibly vocal nest of Bullfinches near the entrance to Glynaeron Forest.

Brynberian Moor was fascinating: at least two pairs of Reed Bunting, multiple Willow Warblers and Meadow Pipits, a newly-fledged Great-spotted Woodpecker, and a Cuckoo that called regularly towards Eglyswrw. But the biggest surprise was a Hobby that called persistently as it flew around.
