The Teifi estuary

A few counts as returning birds start to arrive and some to moult. Unusual to see 2 Dunlin as far up as the river below St Dogmaels town car park with 2 Common Sandpipers, a favoured location for them. Also 3 broods of Shelducklings here, broods of 7, 4 and 2. Curlew numbers have shot up to 45 with 42 Oystercatchers.  Two juveniles amongst 130 Black-headed Gulls and 1 Med Gull at the high tide roost. One Greylag with 400 Canada Geese, and 50 Barnacle Geese, presumably these Barnacles not attending flightless young still on Cardigan Island. Four adult Little Egrets were roosting near the gun battery, and a short look out to sea showed Manx Shearwaters pouring west at 400 in 20 minutes at 7pm.
