Hook peninsular

A Yellow-legged Gull has arrived at Fowborough Point. Possibly the same gull as last year, the place it favours is the same. A flock of Curlews roosts at the mouth of Sprinkle Pill. It grew from 3 weeks ago to peak at 104 birds on 10th, today back down to 54. Most, if not all, are moulting primary feathers. 3 Black-tailed Godwits were with them today. Other waders - 2 Snipe and a solitary Dunlin. Apart from these, smaller waders so far have been notable for their absence on this side of the Cleddau estuary despite both Redshank and Dunlin flocks being visible on the far side. It's early days yet but the mud is covered by more than the usual amount of green algae this year. Are the smaller waders finding it difficult to prospect through it? As for wildfowl, numbers of Mallard are building, those of Greylag Geese also (71 birds on 10th).
