An osprey was fishing in the river opposite the West Williamston shore: it dived from a great height, checking its aim halfway down, and caught a smallish fish. It flew to the spit below Croft Quarry (West W side), tried out both perches which were too unsteady with only one free foot, and settled for eating it on the ground. While I was watching, zoomed in at x60, John Steer arrived and pointed out that a second osprey was perched 20m away on one of the thin poles. The first bird flew NE over the trees with the remains of its fish, and we continued to watch the second one. I picked the first one up later on the same perch as yesterday on the Cresswell River. The second bird flew and drifted away to the north. Neither appeared to be missing a 3rd left primary, I'm guessing neither was the bird we saw on Saturday at Cosheston Pill. Pictures from a great distance so as not to disturb!
