Castlemartin Corse

A convivial small group was in the hide taking advantage of a lovely morning on the Corse. The usual female marsh harrier, newly promoted to 3CY, was beating up and down, and a female merlin flew west along Kilpaison Burrows. Single chough overhead. Lots of open water meant good numbers of teal and shoveler, with huge numbers of lapwing (>2000) mostly over the inland end with smaller numbers of golden plover. Plenty of snipe, the raised water levels meaning a few were close to the hide - this one was swimming. Gulls - about 20 black-headed, and a single greater black-backed. The usual water rails and two mute swans completed the water birds.

A water pipit was feeding near the hide (since confirmed I'm delighted to say by Dave Astins). Not, after all, a new species for the site - Dave O reminds me he saw one in this exact same location in November 2020 - so, as he says, Castlemartin Corse might well join Newgale camp site and the iron bridge at Newport as a water pipit hot spot!
