A bit of a change this weekend. Paul and I paid a visit to the Dowrog for the harrier roost this afternoon. I wasn't feeling particularly confident with the strengthening breeze, but we needn't have worried when first a male hen harrier was joined shortly afterwards by 2 ringtails, lovely to have all 3 in the scope view together as they covered the roost area for 20-30minutes. The Cattle egret was still with the cattle adjacent to Hendre Eynon (SM 77036 27888) and remained in the field at dusk (visible from the raptor viewing spot). A quick look at Penberi reservoir, quite a few Wigeon, 2 Little grebe and a moorhen.
I covered Davids WeBs at Hook-Sprinkle yesterday. Plenty of birds included 130 Black-tailed godwit feeding at the mouth of the pill at mid-tide, 1800 Golden plover dropped onto the foreshore long enough for a count, only 184 Lapwing, a few small groups of Dunlin totalled 182. 266 Teal, 144 Shelduck, 130 Wigeon, 90 Mallard, 15 Pintail and 12 Shoveler. A Red kite was drifting very low over the mudflats spooking all the waders into the air. Local Haverfordwest Greenfinch singing for first time this morning.
