Of the more interesting birds, 3 Grey Plover and 1 Greenshank in the main estuary generally with the feeding Redshank (40) and Curlew (40). The Dunlin flock of 100 is usually found with this these larger waders or amongst the reduced but still 300 Lapwing often on the middle bars. The 20 Ringed Plover stay separate nearer the estuary mouth. The number of Wigeon has halved to 150 and a poor spell for variety amongst the ducks.
A map show the movement of a colour ringed Curlew ringed on the Dyfi and resighted on the Teifi (Rob Cox)
This is a movement we have seen in Dunlin and Knot between these two Cardigan Bay estuaries.
The Barnacle Geese have yet to return and settle on Cardigan Island, 50+ are mobile around the estuary and fields. On the reserve 2 male Goldeneye are on the river and 3 Black-tailed Godwits on the banks, Snipe numbers have reduced. Teal are still everywhere, c100 over the length of river and ponds. A new female Firecrest is the highlight amongst the passerines, though most species are now in song ..
