A yellow-ringed Black-headed Gull that I recorded at the Gann last Sunday turns out to have been ringed in 2021 at Fisher's Green, Essex, just outside the M25 north of London, and this was the first time it had been seen since then:
Generally pretty quiet at the Gann at the moment, although this lunchtime lots of gulls, in particular Herring Gull: I managed to read 7 red Skokholm rings but couldn't read 2 green Skomer ones (as they are on the tibia and the top letter is usually obscured by belly feathers). Also a Skokholm ringed Great Black-backed Gull.
3 Grey Plover today were presumably the wintering trio but I haven't seen them for a while, also present 10 Turnstone, 8 Dunlin and 7 Ringed Plover.
The Shelduck are back and there have been up to 5 pairs looking to establish a territory, suspect that will drop to 2-3 pairs over the coming days and weeks. What smashing birds they are, and great to watch at this time of year.
