I walked up the shore today and sat for a while on the bench round the corner overlooking the Cresswell River. About 20 curlew 500m upstream in the Cresswell Quay direction. Walking back, one whimbrel calling on the Carew River. Couldn't see it, but yes Jim (was it you I spoke to?) whimbrel about!
Walking down to the shore from the car park, one lesser whitethroat was rattling away in the trees and scrub on the right in the top field, another in the hedge by the gate onto the shore. Last year on 30.06. I had a singing male a few hundred metres upstream below Croft Quarry.
Otherwise pretty quiet, butterflies hopeless this year.
