Dale & Marloes peninsula

A few hours out this morning, starting at the Gann where we bumped into visitor David and Derek sporting his shiny new Carlos Fandango binoculars!  Fairly quiet with the highlights being a smart juvenile Sanderling and two smart juvenile Knot which were very confiding (and almost missed, doing great impressions of pebbles on the beach).  A roost of Little Egrets in the trees below Crabhall numbered 9 and there were a further 2 elsewhere.  2 Whimbrel flew west, calling.

On Dale Airfield a nice flock of small waders at the western crossroads contained around 25 Ringed Plover, and 5 Dunlin, which soon became 4 when a Sparrowhawk took the flock (and us) by surprise. Brutal!  Nice to see a juvenile Kestrel and 2 Chough flew over.

Quiet at Marloes Mere, we gave it half an hour but could not see the Spotted Sandpiper.  Carwyn arrived as we left so hopefully had more luck.  (Dave & Lisa)
