Our winter ringing rarely turns up anything really unusual but yesterday was a bit different with a late Yellow- browed Warbler amongst the usual tits and finches. As is often the case in the autumn it was a bird hatched in 2024. A really smart bird - and yes we checked carefully against the criteria for Hume's!
In the last couple of weeks we have also ringed 11 Chiffchaff and 8 Firecrest. Today's ringing didn't turn up any warblers or crests but a very lively Jay which took a chunk out of one of our trainees.
