Couple of hours after work was well timed with a female Marsh harrier patrolling the mere. Lots of young coot present at the moment, ranging from tiny fluff balls just a few days old to a couple that are at least 3-4 weeks now. First Moorhen chicks as well tonight. Canada geese have 4-5 goslings. No sign of any ducklings but vegetation is growing fast and impossible to see now. The harrier repeatedly flushed most of the duck including a pair of Garganey.
Had another visit to Brynberian on the weekend, tried a bit further east of the usual area, towards Carn Goedog - another 3 singing Whinchat (that's 5 territorial males so far). No cuckoo. And still no Grasshopper warbler (it's not the age, just yet, as I've had them elsewhere). No redpoll. Plenty of spots to check in the coming weeks.
First 2 possibly 3 nightjar churring in Ty Rhyg last week, earliest I've had them. Midges were ferocious!
