Cerceris Rybynendis

Not a Latin species name many of us have heard of, nor had I till today, still it`s a flying creature though!
So a shout -out for Brian who rose to the challenge of identifying my "cartoon" Wasp aka "Ornate tailed Digger Wasp" this one is a female. They are by all accounts one of the "most common & most widely distributed species in their genus in Britain" but not it seems in Pembrokeshire & certainly not the Gann, though obviously they are here -  somewhere. Something so common then that most of us have never seen one or just passed it off as another " stingy thing" & waved arms at it & shouted "shoo - shoo"  So keep one`s eyes open & look for these litttle fearsome sand dwelling Bee killing critters. Remember too the name that strikes terror into every little Bee`s heart.   Cerceris Rybynendis!
Thanks again to Brian who`s kickstarted my backside into finding out more about them., hopefully there`s more to come on it`s Welsh status.
