The Gann - From David Ord

Good to see Derek at the Gann this afternoon. With him, me and another gentleman we had quite a twitch going. Just to add a bit of back story to the friendly Knot. I had been watching them on the gravel spit on the far side of the inlet. At this range the prime lens and teleconverter were valuable. As the spit became covered in water the 3 birds floated off and swam across the inlet to our side, landing about 20 yards away. They must have been curious about the one eyed monster along the beach because they promptly sidled up to me at the position in Derek’s photo - at which point a zoom lens would have been handy.

Earlier, a good flock of Oystercatcher landed on the far spit, many of them with numbered, orange rings. Through the scope I could see numbers 1, 6, 16, 35, 83 and 94. There were others I could not read and one bird with a black and a white ring. Our publicity hungry 3 Knot also photobombed the Oystercatchers!
