Following on from Brian’s post below there were 9 Cattle Egrets at around 10 a.m. in the field on the left of the road just outside Hundleton indicated by the yellow dot under “yesterday” on Brian’s map. They were, however, pretty mobile hopping over the hedges from field to field.
I met Mike Hayes who has recently moved to Pembrokeshire there and we went on to Castlemartin. Starting at the Church end, which is now extensively flooded, it was pretty quiet with some 60 Black Headed Gulls, a few Herring Gulls and a lone Lapwing. The wing tagged Marsh Harrier passed heading towards the reed bed and a Buzzard flew over the fields on the far side of the Corse.
We then walked the Corse from the Freshwater West end. The wing tagged Marsh Harrier was hunting almost continually putting in some pretty close passes and the other imm. Marsh Harrier also put in a couple of brief appearances. Another birder had seen the ringtail Hen Harrier briefly. We also saw a Red Kite and another Buzzard. On the water in front of the hide a decent number of duck - 80 Teal, 60 Mallard, 4 Shoveller and a single Wigeon. Small numbers of Snipe flew about and at the far end of the Corse where we had started around 250 Lapwing were flying around, no doubt put up by a raptor.
