A nice Skomer double & a Portuguese ringed Lesser Black-backed Gull

It was great to finally lead a guided walk on Skomer today, the first since July 2019.  The weather was probably the wettest, windiest, and coldest I have ever experienced - certainly for May!  We did however do well with flyover Spoonbill (which was too brief to photograph, although one of the residential guests did manage a few) and Osprey which was harassed by a Great Black-backed Gull at Pigstone Bay before being lost to view heading towards Skomer Head.

Also on Skomer was this presumed hybrid Herring / Lesser Black-backed Gull along Welsh Way.

A couple of weeks ago, whilst undertaking some fieldwork for the Urban Gull Survey of Wales, in amongst a roof nesting colony of mainly Herring Gulls in Milford Haven was a colour-ringed Lesser Black-backed Gull (the sitting bird in the photo below) - blue M:424.  The bird was taken to a rehabilitation centre at Ílhavo, Portugal, where it was ringed and spent 5 days before being released on 10th March this year - clearly a successful rehabilitation!
