Greater Marloes Peninsular

A grand tour of some of the birding spots on the peninsular and the following of note in a '4 raptor day':

Littlehaven/Goultrop Roads - fantastic visibility, The Small's Lighthouse crystal clear on the horizon, allowed views of the Common Scoter flock off Broadhaven and a solitary Great Northern Diver in Goultrop Roads. An attempt to get closer to this bird via the coastal path threw up a Yellow-browed Warbler, flitting amongst the ivy-clad pine trees at the west side of Goultrop Roads (bay).

St Brides - a Buzzard (1) on a post and the Black Redstart showing well on the church roof. A Red Kite (2) sailed over the fields to the north east of the haven.

Marloes Mere - A Kestrel (3) was getting mobbed by a crow with a few smaller birds joining in. A male Brambling sat on a line behind the hide that isn't the Britton hide. A Merlin (4) crossed the road on the way back to Marloes.

The Gann - 6 Brent Geese were in the bay at the outfall of the stream, at least 3 of them dark bellied. The Hooded Crow was still there. A flock of at least 20 Greenfinches joined the pipits and wagtails on the beach, searching for food through the seaweed at the high water mark.

Back at Hook, in line with others' sightings yesterday, Fieldfares have joined the Redwings in the hawthorn bushes. Yesterday, my first Woodcock of the winter.
