Serin / Caspian Gull - an unexpected double

I wasn't expecting to find a Serin at the Gann this afternoon, but that is exactly what happened about 50m from the car park along the Pickleridge just before 2pm!  Luckily for Huw Lewis he was in the car park at the time, and Lisa got there quickly too from home, as by 2.10pm it called 3-4 times, then flew off south-east towards Dale, lost to view as it went over Black Rock.  19th Pembrokeshire record, the second latest (23 November 2003 on Skokholm), the most recent on Skomer in October 2016.

David Ord sadly arrived a couple of minutes too late for the Serin, but he, Huw and I headed off to the river to look for yesterday's Bonaparte's Gull.  We failed with that, but did find an adult Caspian Gull just upstream of the wooden bridge.  It sported a yellow darvic ring on its left tarsus, and it proved to be X290 seen at the Gann last November, and previously in 2017: https://pembsbirds.blogspot.com/2020/11/another-caspian-gull-at-gann.html.  It flew off south after about 10 minutes.  5th Pembrokeshire record following the 4th in Fishguard on 5th November.

An excellent selection of waders on the lagoon included 14 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Knot, 6 Dunlin (and another 12 over), and a Lapwing.  At least 22 Mediterranean Gull up the river and later on the sea.
