Well-spotted Toby - that ring was impossible to see through binoculars in the rain. So the photos were essential to make a record of it.
As to where our Brent Geese are from, the best place to look is the Irish Brent Goose website. I think all the ringed light-bellied Brents we've had are from this scheme, and we are on the migration path from Canada to Brittany in France. I've added a map of ringing recoveries from the BTO website to the avifauna which shows this.
The photos show only the ring on the right leg - and thanks to Mike Davey for getting more photos this morning showing the blue ring on the left leg, so now we should be able to get ringing details from Ireland.
