St Davids Migrating Whimbrel and Wheatears Etc

A flock of 14 Wheatear within 20m radius of horse manure in a pony field near St Davids golf course was a nice surprise at the start of a walk today. The field is opposite holiday cottage of Ty Towen on the corner of the road to Lleithyr. At the end of the day there were still six there. I suspect there will be more in the coming days and other stuff may drop in. A further 12 Wheatear were close together in the bottom field near Penllechwen, just over the hill.

Only a couple of hundred metres away a flock of 12 Whimbrel were in a field adjacent to the track on the way to the YHA, six in the picture below.

Elsewhere were two Dartford Warblers, one singing, plus plenty of singing Linnets, Stonechats and Whitethroats, as well as more odd Wheatears. A couple of Sand Martin and a dozen Swallows were heading north, as was a Peregrine.

On Thursday at the Gann there were three Whimbrel on the beach and later 11 on the Marsh at the bottom of  Mullock farm fields.  It makes me wonder just how many Whimbrel and Wheatear pass this way.

Anybody visiting Marloes might want to have a good look at the potato field southwest of Trehill farm. It is warm and sheltered and might get some interesting visitors. I think I had a flock of four rarities yesterday, but the optics I had with me were just not good enough, even after enhancing the pictures. Any guesses (not the gull)?
