2 Bar-tailed Godwits, 4 Whimbrels, a Common Sandpiper and a Black-tailed Godwit were the wader highlights of this morning's WeBS count. An Osprey fished the Western Cleddau for about half an hour and, assuming the same bird, it flew north over Sprinkle Pill a couple of hours later. The Yellow-legged Gull that has consistently been north of Fowborough point for a few weeks now, but disappeared for my last visit, reappeared today in the mouth of Sprinkle Pill. It has been interesting to watch the moult of this individual bird from a pure white head when it arrived to its more distinctly hooded winter plumage today.
