Marloes Peninsular

 A catch-up from the weekend:

- Lots of Blackbirds and Song Thrushes now in: the thrushes were very visible sunning on the tops of hedges. And flocks of 50-100 Skylarks in the fields.

- A very late and well-marked Chiffchaff feeding actively in the sallows near the Britton hide at Marloes Mere.

- The Mere itself has become quite iced up, so the clear water is best visible from the car park. No unusual duck, but a lot of snipe visible at the margins and flying around.

- Highlight of yesterday was a female/immature Merlin chasing a Meadow Pipit along the top of the Deer Park embankment. The pipit had the sense to duck down into brambles, and the Merlin kept on trying to hover before trying to dive down, but no luck. If it had been a Kestrel it would have got the hover and stoop correct….
