Gann and Mullock Bridge

It was a bit like deja vu reading Richard's Castlemartin post, with a mixed flock of waders on the north side of the haven as well at around 1pm.

About 40 Whimbrel were waiting on the beach with a falling tide along with six pale Bar-tailed Godwits and one or two Curlew. They relocated to a gravel spit beside the river when a local birdwatcher with dog arrived. The picture shows about 32 of them and it was fun to play spot the curlew amongst them, rather than the other way round.

Another single separate brick-red Bar-tail Godwit was up the river associating with the gulls. The mix of genders/plumage and number of Whimbrel suggests they are not the same flock as Richard's. It is also interesting to note that about 50 Whimbrel were at the Gann on the 25th April two years ago. Further  up the river was a single Common Sandpiper on a mudbank. Later, about 40 small waders turned up on the beach about half and half Dunlin and Ringed Plover. A single Wheatear flew along the beach as I left.

Earlier at Mullock bridge a few Sedge Warblers were settling in and singing but not showing, a Cetti's Warbler joined in the singing and there were a couple of bursts from a Grasshopper Warbler in the grassy sedge field to the south, but there was no sign of a Reed Warbler. I found the matching Whitethroats in the lane to the Oriole hide at a quiet Marloes Mere.
